Reversed Aging
Growing up, I was always told that I looked older than I really was. When I was in middle school, people mistook me as a high school student. When I was a freshman in high school, people thought I was a junior or senior. When I was a freshman in college, people thought I was a 3rd year. When I was a 4th year, people thought I was a 4th year. It appeared that people’s impressions of how old I...

Day 27
forwordcollective:
Write in the perspective of a tree as it’s either growing or being cut down.
This is my home, My birthplace. Please lower your chainsaw, I have done nothing wrong. I have only grown where you sowed me, done what you told me, Why aren’t you proud of how big I’ve become? Is there a reason to cut me down? Didn’t you want me to grow? I’m not a palm tree in Los Angeles, but I...

National Poetry Month: Eddy M. Gana Jr. - Day 23
forwordcollective:

And I was going to record this poem, but it is so...

NiProWriMo 22/30 or Finding the Wolf
nicolehomer:
This is based on a conversation/discussion/workshop loosely run by my lovely LoserSlam partner-in-crime, Connor Dooley. (The alternate prompt is, uh… prompted by the amazing Ryk McIntyre.)
In reply to the 30/30 naysayers (let’s call them haters) who say that 30/30 isn’t a productive exercise because it is an exercise that value quantity over quality, I say, yes, 30/30...

Spoken Word + Rap
After seeing all these rappers and emcees at open mics…
I am going to get back to rapping.
I’m not leaving spoken word entirely. I am not that black and white Eddy of the past who thought I could only do one or the other. It wasn’t until after the APIA Summit: Bay ‘09 did I realize that I could do both. Why didn’t I think I could do both to begin with? I have no...

The Weekend feels like a Weekend
This weekend actually feels like a weekend.
Yesterday, which was Saturday, was relaxing. I woke up and went to do mentoring. That was chill. I hanged out with my mentee at Wal-Mart playing video games. When I got home, I just relaxed. I took a long shower. My girlfriend cut my hair. As a side note, we cut each other’s hair now. Saves a lot of money. In any case, I laid down on the futon and...
